Mozambique's ex foreign minister Leonardo Santos Simao teamed up with businessman Fausto de Oliveira Cruz to found the OILMOZ-Investimentos e Participacoes Lda company in August.
The firm aims to involve itself in wide-ranging oil activities (exploration, refining, distribution) and has focussed immediately on two refinery projects, one in Mozambique and the other in Namibia. Residing in South Africa, Cruz is also president of the Famopa company whose shareholders include the retired general and veteran of the ruling Frelimo party Mariano de Araujo Matsinha. For his part, the country’s former energy minister, Castigo Jose Langa and his firm Marrangwe & Cia Ltd founded a company named Marrangue Engineering Lda in June. It will specialize in consultancy work in the field of electro-technical engineering. With a relative, Marta Manuel Joao Langa, the former minister is a director of the new company. Marrangwe e Cia has partnered with other companies that include the mining concern Sugec Minerais Mozambique, in which several Chinese investors hold an interest (ION 1207).
