American companies interested in carrying out the feasibility study for two hydro-electric power stations have just one month left to file an application with the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). The power stations in Mozambique are being envisaged by Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM, State) on the river Lurio, at Quedas and Ocua, with an installed capacity of 178 MW. This feasibility study, costing $597,960 funded by the USTDA, will form the basis of a concession contract which should attract private investors or favour the formation of a partnership between the private and public sectors. It will include various preliminary investigations (geotechnical, hydrological, environmental and social impact, interconnection, etc) on this project. USTDA experts have already calculated that if this project comes to fruition, it could generate an export potential of goods and services for American companies worth a total of $144 million.
