According to information The Indian Ocean Newsletter has obtained in Maputo, a group of journalists is to create a new publication called Canal Moçambique. Owned by the firm Impresa Livra-te (Imprel), this Canal Moçambique will, to start with, be sent out as a daily newsletter to its subscribers by fax. It could later become a weekly two months after its launch. The publisher of the newsletter has already been officially registered. Its seven shareholders include Fernando Veloso, a former editor of Mediafax, the newsletter founded by the journalist Carlos Cardoso who was assassinated five years ago. Joao Chamusse, another former Mediafax employee, is also part of the new press company, at the same time as some journalists currently working on the independent weekly Savana.
