The shareholders of a property company created in mid-October called Cidadela de Matola include the wife of a serving minister and a former Frelimo armed forces general during the anti-colonial struggle. Filomena Jaime Panguene, the wife of Fernando Sumbana Junior, the present Mozambican Minister for Tourism, owns 6% of this new company based in Maputo whose role is to manage property as well as the construction, acquisition and sale of real estate.
For his part, retired General Raimundo Pachinuapa, who had been a member of President Joaquim Chissano’s office, represents the property management company Sif Holding SA on the board of Cidadela da Matola. Sif Holding was created in Maputo in August and owns 45% of Cidadela da Matola.
Finally, the largest of the new company’s three shareholders, with 49% of the equity, is a discreet South African company Filamane Investments Proprietary Ltd based in Parktown (Johannesburg). Filamane’s agent in Maputo is the lawyer Taciana Peao Lopes, who had practiced a few years ago in Coimbra, Portugal.
